In a way, Tyler Z. has been part of Kimberly-Clark his whole life.
Tyler grew up in what he calls a “K-C family” — his dad held a well-paying job with Kimberly-Clark in Neenah, Wis., where the company was founded back in 1872.
Following in his dad’s footsteps, Tyler has worked as an electrician in the Neenah Cold Spring Facility (NCSF) for nine years and counting.
“It’s a good place to work,” says Tyler. “My brother and I both work at Kimberly-Clark, and the hope is that Kimberly-Clark-NCSF will be around for manyyears to come so I can provide that same comfortable living to my boys. I would love to retire from NCSF.”
He likes that’s been able to earn a solid reputation and the respect of his peers, not to mention the freedom to manage his own time.
“I often work alone on a schedule that I set with my planner,” he explains. “I can stay longer some days to work on a project and get out earlier other days.”
Tyler’s first experience with Kimberly-Clark was as a contractor helping install machines. When his dad told him NCSF had an opening for an electrician, Tyler applied and got the job.
He started by servicing specific machines and then moved on to responding to immediate breakdowns throughout the plant, which operates 24/7 making products for Kimberly-Clark’s Kotex®, Poise® and Depend® brands.
Tyler is currently a Utilities Electrician, which means he’s responsible for keeping everything in the place powered, including heating, air conditioning and the manufacturing machines.
“I need to deliver rock-solid utilities,” he says. “That often requires thinking on your feet, fixing things the right way, and taking pride in your work. With all the new hires and apprentices in our trade, we are constantly training and working one-on-one with them to strengthen them and our team as a whole.”
He recognizes his role is behind the scenes, but that doesn’t make it any less valuable.
“I am always looking at ways to update, automate and improve the area I work in to make it run more efficiently and save money,” Tyler says. “The work I do is creating Better Care for a Better World. It allows our machines to make products that help people live their lives with freedom and security.”
His advice for anyone thinking about working in a Kimberly-Clark facility is simple: Give it a try.
“It’s clean, temperature controlled and relatively quiet,” Tyler points out. “All team members are willing to take on any challenge given to them and pick up on job skills quickly… I have seen some great things happen within our company and within our community because of Kimberly-Clark.”
